Another Twitter Outage?

Looks like Twitter is down again. I guess those DDOS attacks never went away.
Are the Russians behind this one as well?

Twitter Ain’t Worth Anything Right Now

Silicon Alley Insider argued that Twitter might be worth over a billion dollars in a year. Sure – and I might be worth over a billion dollars by the end of this year as well…
Let’s face it – Twitter hasn’t worked at all lately. Every time you want to log in, it kicks you [...]

Plurk is joining the API game – with some help from their friends

The Inquisitr reports tonight that Twitter challenger Plurk is going to release an API tomorrow:
A Plurk API will allow third party application development, a key step in taking Plurk to a broader audience. It will also mean the development of apps that display Plurk Twitter style (or even Plurk Mobile style), giving Plurk a greater [...]

Twitter lost a database?

Anybody got a database for Twitter – looks like they misplaced one of theirs?
We just lost a database about 5 minutes ago and this has severely impacted the site.
We’re working on recovering from this now.

As of right now, you can see user pages, but you can’t log into Twitter.
We know Twitter’s architecture and backbone are [...]

Twitter’s Got Answers

It’s nice to see that Twitter is really getting serious about opening up and giving us more of an insight into it’s inner working. If there is any way for Twitter to restore some of the goodwill it lost during it’s far too many outages, it’s posts like this one today on the Twitter Technology [...]

FF vs. Twitter: Let the Killing Continue

Now that I’m caught up on the events of the last week, it becomes pretty clear that FriendFeed is still the topic du jour. Today, TechCrunch announces (based on Compete data), that FriendFeed still has a lot of killing to do:
FriendFeed certainly has a lot of potential, but it still has a lot of killing [...]

Today’s Meme: Gapingvoid left Twitter: let’s all explain why we don’t

Hugh Mcleod has decided to quit Twitter and apparently that’s a big thing.
What I find funny about this is that it has started a whole new series of posts where everybody and their poodle thinks they now have to defend why they think Twitter is important (Steven Hodson makes a similar point here).
You don’t have [...]

Dave Winer on Competing with Twitter: Emotion and Reliability

I think its fitting that Dave Winer’s post on competing with Twitter just hit TechMeme while Twitter’s API backend seems to be down and out once again.
Among others, Dave is picking up some ideas that the guys from Assetbar discussed a while back:
#4 It must be possible to use your clone when Twitter goes down [...]

Twitter Adds Reply Button to Web Interface

It’s a minor change for sure, but Twitter just added a reply button to its web interface.
Given that most people I know are using clients like Snitter, Twhirl, TwitBox, or Twitterlicious, it makes sense for Twitter to try and make the web interface more useful. After all, at some point Twitter is going to have [...]

Seesmic is open for your business – but I already left…

Thanks to its founders amicable nature and good marketing strategy, Seesmic (the “Twitter of online video”) quickly became the talk of the town when the first beta invites were released.
Now, Seesmic not only has received $6 million in funding, but it also opened up the door to the public at large, as Venture Beat reports.
My [...]

Twitter: We Need to Talk

Twitter,
When I first met you, you asked me what I was doing – and I was immediately smitten. Ever since, we have had a stormy romance. I kept sipping on the sweet nectar of your updates. I made friends with your friends, I took you with me on road trips, we went to Europe together. [...]

Twitter Hires and Finally Fixes Missing Updates

Twitter users can finally look forward to a week where they will actually receive all their messages (hey – there is nothing wrong with some optimism). According to the latest update on the Twitter blog, their newest hire quickly figured out what had gone wrong:
Twitter has hired another amazing engineer (and just in time, too). [...]
