Come on Microsoft – that ad doesn’t even make sense (aka: Why I just bought a Macbook)

The Windows vs. Mac discussion never stops to amaze me. That’s probably because I’m pretty agnostic when it comes to my operating systems. I’ve used Windows 3.1 to 7, Ubuntu was the main OS on my laptop for the last three years, I wrote some of my best stuff on an LC 630 Macintosh back [...]

Testing Wordpress on the iPhone

So Wordpress has finally released a native iPhone application. Not only do you get to try out how good you can type on the virtual keyboard, but you can also check which version of WP you are using, as it need at least version 2.5.1.
Update: cool – worked just like advertised.

iPhone 3G – Too Many Unanswered Question: SMS? Upgrades? Activation? Price?

I wonder if AT&T and Apple maybe haven’t quite worked out the kinks in this new system yet, or if this is simply an example of bad communication, but the information we got about the new iPhone at yesterday’s WWDC keynote left us with more questions than answers.
Here are some questions I have:
Upgrades and [...]

iPhone only available in stores? Expect some long lines

I’ve been reading the coverage of the iPhone 3G, and as I was browsing the Apple site and reading the AT&T press release, I noticed that there was no mention of any online sales (but then, why am I surprised, I already predicted this yesterday…)
If AT&T is going to subsidize the phone, then they will [...]

Apple Keynote Predictions

I have a horrible record when it comes to my predictions for Steve Jobs’ keynotes. As I’m not an Apple faithful, I’m not quite as plugged into the Mac world as some of my friends (though fully intend to buy an iPhone 2 once it’s available).
However, I have been following the coverage/rumors about tomorrow’s/today’s [...]

College Students: Get a free iPod Touch when you buy a new Mac

Apple has always featured a back-to-school promotion for college students (and grad students and professors) but this year’s deal seems better than the last ones: you get a free iPod Touch when you buy a new new MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, or Mac Pro using your education discount.
You actually get to chose between [...]

Tuesday Afternoon Thoughts: iPhone, Ads in Feeds and Twitter Numbers

Not too much news yet today and lots of deadlines to meet for yours truly, but I do have a few thoughts about the little news that did trickle through the blogosphere today:
AT&T to subsidize iPhone: I always said I was going to buy the 2nd gen iPhone the day it comes out. If AT&T [...]

According to a press release on ThinkSecret.com, the Apple rumor blog and Apple Inc. have settled their lawsuit and ThinkSecret is shutting down:
Apple and Think Secret have settled their lawsuit, reaching an agreement that results in a positive solution for both sides. As part of the confidential settlement, no sources were revealed and Think Secret [...]

Does Leopard really suck?

Every day now, I hear how badly Apple’s Leopard sucks. Now there is news of a massive data loss bug.
Dave Winer says he is not happy with Leopard:
Talking with a friend a few days ago, he asked what I thought of Leopard. He had installed the new version, like me, the first day it came [...]

Leopard Hacked Already

If Apple thought that they could design a system that would keep hackers out of their phones or operating systems, they were quite wrong.
According to various reports today, a number of hackers have already gotten Leopard to run on their “Hackintoshes.”
When OS X was first released for the Intel hardware, it took the community quite [...]

If Apple…

If Apple drops the price of DRM free iTunes Plus songs by $0.30, are they going to give a refund to those who bought the songs before the price drop? Are people going to protest about this? Petitions anybody?

Will she be sued?

A teacher in New York is using songs and iPods to teach students English. Fair use/educational use, or a potential lawsuit? Did she buy those songs? Did she buy them 60 times? 300 times? Once? Bittorrent?
[...] in 2006, Ms. Poli received 60 more iPods. Last May, the district decided to buy 300 iPods to expand [...]

Another Bad Day for Apple

Looks like today’s 1.1.1 release of the iPhone firmware is creating a mess for both unlocked and regular iPhones.
Here is what happened to Jonathan Seff of iPhone Central:
I decided to try the 1.1.1 iPhone update on my unlocked and hacked phone. The process went along just fine until the iPhone restarted. Then I got a [...]

$100 iPhone Credit is Here

Apple has outlined the system for getting back $100 of that iPhone you bought before the price drop.
Simply head to Apple’s website, enter your phone number and serial number – and in short time, an SMS will appear in your mailbox with a code for a $100 Apple Store credit.
Looks like there is no iTunes [...]
