FriendBinder Review: Social Media Aggregation Done the Boring Way

[Disclaimer: As you read this, please keep in mind that this is a review of a product in its very early stages - my initial assessment here is based on what the service does at this point - this can (and will hopefully) change dramatically as development continues]

I got an early invite for FriendBinder, [...]

Limelight loses patent suit and might have to go dark

Update: Adam Curry says Podshow does have a contingency plan and that Limelight doesn’t expect to go black anytime soon.
According to the AP, Akamai Technologies has won a a patent suit against Limelight Networks. Apparently Limelight’s content delivery system was infringing upon one of Akamai’s patents.
Judging from the early reports on Silicon Alley Insider, besides [...]

Podcast Advertising Going Big?

According to a prediction by eMarkter, the audience for podcasts will be growing, and with it, the market for podcast advertising:
”As the US podcasting industry matures it is unquestionably creating a listening audience,” says Paul Verna, eMarketer Senior Analyst and author of the new report, Podcast Audience: Seeking Riches in Niches, “And along with a [...]

The Promise of Podcasting

Dave Winer is looking at the state of podcasting today, and its promise in the future. Besides outlining his ideal, mobile podcatcher (wifi, recording, open software), he also talks about the expectations and reality of podcasting:
In terms of expectations, a lot of people seemed to think they could start making podcasts and quit their day [...]

Arrington on the A-list, TechCrunch and other stuff

We are smarter than me did a good interview with Mike Arrington about his career and especailly his thoughts about the A-list.
A must listen for everybody who still cares about the A-list discussion and/or wants to get some more background info on TechCrunch from the man himself.
Mike emphasizes the role of the blogging community. Good [...]

Odeo Acquires Fireant

Odeo has acquired Fireant. Interesting move, as it will allow Odeo to feature video content. I still don’t know anybody who knows the site, but this might change, as they seem to have more upgrades planned. The site always looked better than Podshow anyway.
From the Odeo Blog:
New York, NY, September 14, 2007
Odeo (formerly SonicMountain), a [...]

The Return of Steve Gillmor

Bad Sinatra. I am not sure if it is PodTech’s servers, but so far, I have only managed to see Steve piss off the receptionist at salesforce.com, but that alone is already worth the price of admission.
Good to see Steve back in the game, though. The demise of the Gillmore Gang, in all it’s strange [...]

Podshow Up 92%?

Adam Curry couldn’t help but leave a comment here linking to a Podshow press release from June 18th. Here is quick excerpt:
According to comScore Media Metrix reporting, PodShow had 1,372,000 unique visitors for the month of May, up 92% from April’s number of 690,000, which was up 16% from the March number of 592,000. Prior [...]

SplashCast Addresses RSS Issues – Still Needs Some Work

Earlier this week, SplashCast released the MyPodcastNetwork service. The problem with the service was that it highjacked podcasters’ RSS feeds and repurposed them – which is probably the greatest crime known to podcasters.
Marshall Kirkpatrick today addressed some of those issues on the SplashCast blog:
*Individual, original feeds now exposed in the player.
*Direct links to podcasters’ sites [...]

SplashCast Highjacks RSS Feeds

You would guess people had learned from the Podshow feed highjacking fiasco from last year, but it looks like SplashCast is doing the same thing.
Todd Cochrane was the first to point this out:
At the time of this posting If you looked at my splashcast aggregated show profile here then look at the RSS button on [...]

Podshow on Sirius No More

Looks like Podshow and Sirius have split.
I say: Big deal. Paul Colligan here has some interesting ideas, though I am not sure I fully agree:
We’ll never know the numbers but I’d bet good cash that Podshow on Sirius sold more satellite radios to Podcasters than Sirius knows. People always support what they help create and [...]

Blogger and Podcaster Magazine – What a Brilliant Idea

Oh yes – we now have our own print magazine – with the aspiration of having a circulation of a quarter million by the end of 2008 (link to pdf media kit).
When I first heard about this, I thought it was a joke. Really – what is a magazine going to do for blogging and [...]

Why Podcasting Can’t Compete Against Apple

Dave Winer (in reaction to this piece on Valleywag) explains why podcasting sites can’t compete againt iTunes:
If I were Evan Williams or Adam Curry I never would have invested in the systems they invested in, even before Apple came in to the market. I put my stake in the ground when both these systems launched. [...]
