I see a lot of people are citing a study by Compete.com that purports to give us some data about what prices people are willing to pay for an iPhone.
Adario Strange on the Wired blog concludes the following from those numbers:
-8 percent of consumers would be willing to pay for the iPhone at its original price […]

Apple and Its Vendors

September 10, 2007 |

Just read this piece by Scott Mortiz on TheStreet.com:
Last week’s price cut decision was so abrupt that Apple’s exclusive wireless partner, AT&T (T - Cramer’s Take - Stockpickr - Rating), learned of the changes during Job’s speech, say sources.

I am surprised by the fact that Mortiz is surprised. That’s exactly how Apple treats all the […]

I am sure the recent price cut has helped Apple reach this milestone a day or two faster, but Apple has announced that it sold its one millionth iPhone in 74 days since its introduction on June 29th.
“One million iPhones in 74 days—it took almost two years to achieve this milestone with iPod,” said Steve […]

The iPhone developer wiki announced that a new hack allows the iPhone to work with prepaid cards, specifically, those bought at 7-11s:
Update: we got confirmation that prepaid cards using the AT&T network worked. At least it has been confirmed for 7-11 cards
We wanted to get some confirmations before announcing it, but it seems nearly […]

It didn’t take the enterprising Apple hacking community too long to start hacking the iPhone. After only three days, a computer science student, Erik Twes, from Darmstadt, Germany, ran a rather simple hacker tool against the publicly available restore image for the iPhone. I guess it is a sign of globalization when hackers with no access […]

Touchscreen, WiFi, MicroSD Card slot for expandability and not bound to any carrier. Oh, and it runs Linux. The OpenMoko project is producing the first open-source hardware phone which will go on sale for $300 and $450 on July 9th.
There will be two models, the Neo Base and the New Advanced. Both are mainly geared […]

Via Consumerist: Apple has revealed the rates for its iPhone and they strike me as very reasonable and the rest of the Blogosphere seems to agree.
If you already have an AT&T voice plan, you can tack on an unlimited data +200 SMS messages for $20.
The basic monthly price for a line with 200 SMS and […]

It is standard business in the mobile phone industry to subsidize phones and then locking in consumers for one- or two-year contracts. The idea is that the phones are cheaper and the company makes its money back over time. If the consumer wants to cancel the contract earlier, an termination fee applies to make up […]

Josh Bancroft today has some interesting observations about why he thinks there is no iPhone SDK and why it infuriates developers so much:
Members of the Apple Developer program could buy an Intel-based development kit MONTHS before the first Intel Mac was available at retail. As soon as the switch to Intel was announced, in fact. […]

John Paczkowski at All Things Digital reports that Apple’s claim of eight hours of talk time for the iPhone was based upon observations under laboratory conditions and might not be what consumers can expect in real world use when they get their hands on one on Friday:
Anyway … it’s worth noting that Apple’s latest iPhone […]

While a lot of people are wondering why Apple released Safari on Windows, I have been playing around with the browser for a while now.
My first observations is a very simple one: my underpowered Dell 700m with an old Pentium M and running Windows XP runs Safari great. It is snappy and at least just […]

The Apple Keynote was a major letdown today - no doubt about it.
The only tangible (or virtual) news coming out of it was that Apple’s Safari browser now runs on Windows, too.
I have been playing around with it for a while now and here are my first observations:
It’s ugly - the plain gray background clashes […]

Apple Keynote

June 11, 2007 |

I have been following the Apple Keynote today, and so far, there has been very little exciting that has been announced.
If Safari now being available on Windows is the only “One next thing” for today, there will be a lot of unhappy fanboys. (My take on Safari on Windows is available here)
Jobs hasn’t even mentioned […]

MacRumors got their hands on an iPhone training manual.
It’s a revolutionary phone that allows you to dial numbers with your fingers (no kidding - that’s point one in the manual). More importantly, the iPhone is missing almost everything that could make it interesting. No IM, no GPS, but at least it has a vibrate mode […]
