The Inquisitr reports tonight that Twitter challenger Plurk is going to release an API tomorrow:
A Plurk API will allow third party application development, a key step in taking Plurk to a broader audience. It will also mean the development of apps that display Plurk Twitter style (or even Plurk Mobile style), giving Plurk a greater [...]

What a surprise: Women like smartphones, too
June 10, 2008 | Comments
Maybe the New York Times is still stuck a little bit behind the times, but why exactly is it news that women are now starting to be more interested in smartphones?
Does the New York Times assume that women are not interested in having a decent browsing experience on their phones? Keeping in touch with friends [...]

iPhone 3G - Too Many Unanswered Question: SMS? Upgrades? Activation? Price?
June 10, 2008 | Comments
I wonder if AT&T and Apple maybe haven’t quite worked out the kinks in this new system yet, or if this is simply an example of bad communication, but the information we got about the new iPhone at yesterday’s WWDC keynote left us with more questions than answers.
Here are some questions I have:
Upgrades and [...]

iPhone only available in stores? Expect some long lines
June 9, 2008 | Comments
I’ve been reading the coverage of the iPhone 3G, and as I was browsing the Apple site and reading the AT&T press release, I noticed that there was no mention of any online sales (but then, why am I surprised, I already predicted this yesterday…)
If AT&T is going to subsidize the phone, then they will [...]

I wrote a bit about my expectations for the Apple keynote yesterday (and I wasn’t too far off in my predictions).
At the same time, though, I was also really interested how both Twitter and FriendFeed would hold up to what must have been a massive demand of geeks scouring for information during those two hours [...]

Apple Keynote Predictions
June 9, 2008 | Comments
I have a horrible record when it comes to my predictions for Steve Jobs’ keynotes. As I’m not an Apple faithful, I’m not quite as plugged into the Mac world as some of my friends (though fully intend to buy an iPhone 2 once it’s available).
However, I have been following the coverage/rumors about tomorrow’s/today’s [...]

I’m noticing that a number of people are setting up rooms on FriendFeed for tomorrow’s WWDC keynote where, at 10amPST tomorrow, unless all predictions are wrong, we are going to see the announcement of a new iPhone with 3G support, GPS, video, and/or a smoothie maker, depending on who you ask.
VentureBeat – their people [...]

Woopra: Live Stats Pron
June 7, 2008 | Comments
I was a little bit down on Woopra when they made me think I had made it into their beta program but in the end was confronted with a request for an invite code I (and many others) never received.
Now, however, I finally got my invitation and I have to admit that, as far as [...]

Marshall Kirkpatrick wrote a great post about the signal vs. noise discussion today (see also Hutch Carpenter’s article from yesterday about this). I recommend you read the whole article, because it puts a lot of the common arguments against noise in perspective. But if you are in a hurry – here are Marshall’s conclusions:
Quiet time, [...]

A Day of Outages: Amazon, Twitter, Disqus, WinExtra
June 6, 2008 | Comments
Today must be one of those days on the net (and it’s not even Friday the 13th yet – that’s next Friday!).
Amazon is still recovering from a large, international outage, Twitter is down and out (like that’s something new – but even istwitterdown.com is down right now, too), Disqus suffered some outages last night, [...]

Gmail Gets a (not so exciting) Lab
June 6, 2008 | Comments
TechCrunch has been teasing us all afternoon with the announcement of a ‘Labs’ tab in Gmail that was supposed to go live around 6pm PST, but seemed to be running a bit late. By now, it seems most Gmail users should have access to it (Settings –> Labs).
As Mathew Ingram writes, this is a nice [...]

Bret Taylor from FriendFeed announced a new FF feature tonight: personalized recommendations.
That’s why I’m happy to announce we just launched a feature that helps you find the best stuff your friends have shared recently without sifting through your entire feed. Underneath the search box on your FriendFeed homepage, you now have links to see the [...]

Twitter lost a database?
June 5, 2008 | Comments
Anybody got a database for Twitter – looks like they misplaced one of theirs?
We just lost a database about 5 minutes ago and this has severely impacted the site.
We’re working on recovering from this now.
As of right now, you can see user pages, but you can’t log into Twitter.
We know Twitter’s architecture and backbone are [...]
