The Inquisitr reports tonight that Twitter challenger Plurk is going to release an API tomorrow:
A Plurk API will allow third party application development, a key step in taking Plurk to a broader audience. It will also mean the development of apps that display Plurk Twitter style (or even Plurk Mobile style), giving Plurk a greater chance of winning users from the ever declining Twitter platform.
However, the API is not an official Plurk API – instead, it is an API developed by Ryan Lim – and hence called the RLPlurkAPI.
Still – no matter whether official or not – having an API for Plurk is an important step for the service. Given its quirky interface, it would probably benefit from having developers implement a number of different user interfaces.
At the same time, though, Twitter is managing to stay up and running for now and Plurk – if it wants to be taken seriously - it fighting an uphill battle against a service with a very loyal following.
And then, of course, Plurk has been battling various crashes over the last week as well…
