A Day of Outages: Amazon, Twitter, Disqus, WinExtra

carl-icahn.jpgToday must be one of those days on the net (and it’s not even Friday the 13th yet – that’s next Friday!).

Amazon is still recovering from a large, international outage, Twitter is down and out (like that’s something new – but even istwitterdown.com is down right now, too), Disqus suffered some outages last night, and even my friend Steven Hodson’s WinExtra is offline right now.

I gather this is a good reminder about how cloud computing is prone to suffer these kinds of outages etc. etc. but really, it’s also a good reminder that while we tend to write and talk a lot about the outward, consumer facing side of the web, we do tend to ignore the plumbing behind it all – until it breaks.

I always feel like I’m a control freak when I want to host everything on my own site, but I did give in and install Disqus for comments – the convenience for my readers and for myself just outweighed the cost of a potential problem with Disqus. Even if they shut down at some point, I just turn on the old comment system again and move on.

But then, my email is exclusively on Gmail – and I don’t make backups of it, at all…

Next Friday is Friday the 13th. For your protection, please use only Spanish items. In Spain, it's Tuesday the 13th that's unlucky!

Is it paprika over the left shoulder & burp 3 times or walk backwards at 13:00? No wait… salt over the right shoulder and spin left breaking mirror? no wait… one of those is a hiccup remedy…

Hehe, yeah same here. If DISQUS goes bye-bye, move to Intense Debate. If it goes bye-bye, turn on my built-in/native comment system and install SezWho. Just move on as you said.

Lol, I dn't make backups of my gmail too.. haha.

But so far, I'm at ease. A Web2.0 service with no problems like downtime is scary, really.

Development of digital technologies occurs prompt rates. Does not lag behind progress and digital TV. Speaking about digital TV, we first of all mean satellite TV. The digital satellite TV becomes more and more accessible to simple users. The market paid satellite tv also is not necessary on a place. The new digital standard of TV of high clearness HDTV actively develops and takes root. The satellite TV becomes more and more directed on the spectator. Besides digital quality of the image, advantage of satellite systems also is also the extensive cover zone of the companion.

You really had great insights, well for me if disqus goes down, its fine, I'll just turn back to old commenting system.. I guess there's no problem with deleted comments.. most people will comeback and leave comments anyway.
