Twitter lost a database?
June 5, 2008 |
Anybody got a database for Twitter – looks like they misplaced one of theirs?
We just lost a database about 5 minutes ago and this has severely impacted the site.
We’re working on recovering from this now.
As of right now, you can see user pages, but you can’t log into Twitter.
We know Twitter’s architecture and backbone are stretched to the max, and I appreciate that they updated their status blog within 5 minutes (that’s a new record!) – but at some point, these things are starting to look a bit amateurish. No system with as many users at Twitter should rely on a single database for anything.
One thing I noticed today was that my FriendFeed homepage is starting to see more and more posts and links posted directly to FriendFeed. If Twitter keeps floundering like this, they will start losing more and more users – and even a service like Plurk (see my review here), which most people barely acknowledged just a few weeks ago is now gaining traction as more and more people are looking for alternatives to Twitter (Update: looks like all the Twitter refugees took down Plurk with them…).
