Twitter is Learning - and other thoughts about Twitter

Twitter is Learning to Talk to Us

I have been showing Twitter the cold shoulder for a few days, but I will be the first to admit that I do miss the Twitter experience and that neither Jaiku, Pownce or the currently hyped Plurk can really make up in features for the strength of the community that already exists on Twitter.

What has mostly re-established my faith in the folks over on Twitter is that they have finally started giving their users regular updates on what’s going on - especially on the Twitter Status blog.

What do they say?

Today, for example, we learn that they have had a 99.4% uptime over the last day and a half, while, at the same time, they had more visitors to the site yesterday than ever before (I assume a lot of mainstream coverage really helped here).

What else?

The first thing that came to my mind when I read that Twitter’s CEO Jack Dorsey said that improving uptime is their top priority was: no sh%t.

Of course, we users are a fickle, spoiled bunch - we expect even free services to work flwlessly and we will complain without end if we don’t.

However, that also means that we have come to love the service and actually miss it when it’s gone. One feature I especially miss is the IM interface and its track functionality - hopefully that will be restores soon.
