Hugh Mcleod has decided to quit Twitter and apparently that’s a big thing.
What I find funny about this is that it has started a whole new series of posts where everybody and their poodle thinks they now have to defend why they think Twitter is important (Steven Hodson makes a similar point here).
You don’t have […]

Thinking about Hoot the Owl, Scoble, and Fast Company’s brand
April 10, 2008 | 10 Comments
I didn’t say much about the Loren Feldman/Shel Israel affair - to be honest, I like the puppets, but it was really more of a human interest story than anything else.
But as I was Matt Craven’s latest piece on this in the Blog Herald, I couldn’t help but agree that what all of this […]

FriendFeed is about intention
April 9, 2008 | 1 Comment
I was just reading Alexander van Elsas’ piece on FriendFeed and intention. As usual Alexander does a great job digging deep into one issue. This time, it’s what he sees as a major flaw in FriendFeed - the lack of intention in sharing the items that appear in the FriendFeed stream.
Here is why he thinks […]

Some lessons learned after 1000 posts
April 9, 2008 | 2 Comments
Now that I have updated the blog to Wordpress 2.5, the number of published posts stares right at me when I log into the dashboard. Right now, that number stands at 1046. I never realized how much I must have written here since October 2005. I can’t even really figure out what the first post […]

Twitter Adds Search - but still no full-text search
April 8, 2008 | 1 Comment
It’s been a long time coming and I never understood why this wasn’t a default feature of Twitter even at launch time, but now, Twitter finally has search - even if it isn’t really a full-text search.
You can now search for locations and names, but there is no way to search for keywords within tweets. […]

Jesse Spauling, the developer of Blogrize send me an invite to try out his new service yesterday. Blogrize is still in a private beta. Louis Gray had some invites yesterday, but they seem to be all gone at this point there are still some left, so hurry to Louis’ site and grab one.
Blogrize describes itself […]

Monday Night Thoughts: Google Apps, Why We Blog, A-Lists, and a Hardware Upgrade
April 7, 2008 | 2 Comments
Lots of non-tech things keeping me busy today, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have something to say about the events of the day:
Google’s App Engine: I’m not a developer, but from what I see from the developer community, this is a big deal. If anything, it pushes the ideas of cloud computing further and […]

Blogging ourselves to death
April 5, 2008 | 2 Comments
Talk about a dramatic headline.
If today were Friday, I’m sure the New York Times “Blog Till They Drop” story would be getting even more play:
They work long hours, often to exhaustion. Many are paid by the piece — not garments, but blog posts. This is the digital-era sweatshop. You may know it by a different […]

The Last Podcast joins the Grand Effect Blog Network
April 4, 2008 | 6 Comments
Sarah Perez invited me to join the Grand Effect blog network a few days ago and as you can see from the banner flying on the top of the page, I accepted her invitation.
Grand Effect is a small tech blog network that Sarah recently founded with the help David Peralty of eXtra For Every Publisher.

Dave Winer says Seemic buying Twhirl is all about the users, but also about keeping Seesmic in the conversation:
Another reason it’s potentially a brilliant move is that it keeps Seesmic in the conversation. After an initial rollout that made Seesmic the talk of the town for a couple of months, now the cursor has […]

TechCrunch just announced that Loic Le Meur’s web video service Seesmic has bought Twitter client Twhirl.
Twihrl is a very good Twitter client and very similar to my favorite, Snitter. It’s an Adobe Air app and available for free.
I guess Seesmic is planning to make it the default desktop app for its online video service. After […]

The whole DEMOfall vs. TC50 controversy is just a farce. I don’t see why the two can’t coexist. What really bother’s me is the language on the TC50 side. Calacanis calls his JasonNation to war, Arrington says Demo has to die - come on guys - it’s just two conferences. The TC50 crew clearly schedule […]

FriendFeed continues it’s slow but steady rollout of new features. One a lot of folks have been asking for was a better filtering mechanism to decrease noise. FriendFeed now took a first step in this direction by allowing users to blanket hide all entries from a specific service such as Twitter, Tumblr, Digg etc. (see […]
