Twitter’s Lead Architect Leaves
April 23, 2008 | 1 Comment
Twitter’s lead architect Blaine Cook, whose main task had been to enable Twitter to scale better, has left the company.
Michael Arrington, taking a book from Valleywag and making this into a personal story, thinks this means that the “Amateur Hour” at Twitter is over.
Blaine says he is moving to England so that his partner […]

Some interesting news from Twitter tonight. Because they found that they had a lot of users in Japan, they launched a Japanese version that includes advertising. If you are not in Japan, the URL will redirect you to the regular English version, so here is a screen-shot courtesy of the Twitter blog:
The really interesting part […]

With Alert Thingy and now Twhirl, the market for FriendFeed desktop apps already feel crowded. The development cycles for both apps are extremely fast and the Twhirl developers arerumored to release a new version tonight.
However, with MySocial 24×7 (MS24×7), both of these AIR based apps have found a worthy challenger. I didn’t recommend either Alert […]

CNN enters the garment business: sells shirts from its homepage
April 22, 2008 | 1 Comment
Somebody please explain this to me, but why there a link behind some headlines on the CNN homepage that allows me to buy the headline on a T-Shirt.
Or maybe that’s just a dumb question - after all, who doesn’t want a “Rep calls workers ‘illiterate peasants” t-shirt. Especially when you can get them in black, […]

FreundeFeed: It’s for real
April 21, 2008 | 2 Comments
There was a minor ruckus about what looked like it was going to be a German FriendFeed clone called FreundeFeed (=friendfeed in German).
FreundeFeed is still in stealth mode, but given its name and the fact that it used a clear copy of the FriendFeed logo, it seemed reasonable to assume that it was going […]

Are You Qualified to Write About Tech?
April 20, 2008 | 5 Comments
Now if it was Friday and Dave hadn’t “turned off Techmeme” for this post, I would have thought that this post would have fulfilled all the qualification to stretch into a fun-filled weekend long bitchmeme - still, there is potential here.
Here is what Dave Winer thinks about who is worthy of discussing tech stories and […]

Twitter has been up and down all weekend. Some updates make it through, some don’t. Some direct messages make it - some don’t.
Now Twitter is all about communication as Tony Hung pointed out on Twitter today, but why can’t Twitter talk to us when things go bad?
Lot’s of bloggers are chatting about it, but the […]

Topping off a totally lethargic weekend with a minor bitchmeme
April 20, 2008 | 4 Comments
Between Twitter being only half-functional this weekend and the Friday bitchmeme not even making it to Friday afternoon (and not because I didn’t try), this weekend was probably one of the slowest I can remember for a long while.
Now, this afternoon, the TechCrunch crew is trying to stir things up a bit by publishing a […]

Gillmor Gang now hosted on TechCrunch
April 18, 2008 | 1 Comment
After about a year of not being able to use the ‘Gillmor Gang’ monicker because of issues with Podshow (and I just base this on hearing rumors and some informed guesses), the Gillmor Gang has now moved to TechCrunch, making it the first non Arrington chaired podcast on the TechCrunch network.
Update: In his TechCrunch […]

Do Advertisers Even Deserve Bloggers?
April 18, 2008 | 3 Comments
Clearly it is Friday and we all know what that means: it’s time for a good bitchmeme and who better to bring it to us than Louis Gray (who seems to be conspicuously often involved in these) himself. Lately the Friday bitchmemes have been drowned out by some real news, which is really a shame, […]

South Park and Why It’s Good to Let Go
April 18, 2008 | 1 Comment
I was just reading Alexander van Elsas’s latest post on noise in Web 2.0 as a Tech Elite problem.
There are a lot of thought provoking ideas in his article, so I recommend you read the whole post, but here is a paragraph (and a half) that stood out for me:
How many people do you know […]

Why Twitter and FriendFeed don’t mix well in desktop apps (yet)
April 17, 2008 | 1 Comment
I was just reading Corvida’s piece on the advantages of using Alert Thingy or Twhirl and if they should really go head to head with each other (that was before Twhirl added FriendFeed support last night - this stuff moves really fast right now).
As I was testing out Twhirl with FriendFeed support last night, I […]

Twhirl now is also a FriendFeed client (also see TechCrunch story about this here - Michael Arrington is an investor in Seesmic and hence Twhirl). You can download the FriendFeed enabled beta version here. This is still a beta version, so things can/will change, but here are my initial thoughts:
+ Twitter and FriendFeed are still […]
