Friday Afternoon Thoughts

March 21, 2008 |

So Apple now forces Safari on you through its update process. This breaks some cardinal rules for me. Most importantly, the fact that I don’t want anybody to push anything onto my machine except for critical updates. Period. Besides that, Safari is a pretty boring browser anyway. At least it makes for a bit of a Friday bitchmeme…

It’s fitting that Sony’s $50 “crapware removal fee is a hot topic today as well. But I guess it’s a way to subsidize store bought machines these days and with the crapware removed, the manufacturer loses out on income… good thing I built my own machines.

Conversation fragmentation is still a hot topic. The advent of Friendfeed has sure brought this to the forefront. I have a split opinion about this. On the one hand, we always had conversations about certain pieces away from their origins (by email, for example) - so this isn’t that new, yet has become a lot more visible. On the other hand, I can see why writers have issues with this as well. We all like it when people comment on our posts. In the end, I think we are in the middle of a transition and it’s only a matter of time before APIs and plug-ins will tie the two worlds together again.

I have barely used Twitter in the last few days - I didn’t think this would happen, but for the time being, FriendFeed has replaced Twitter for me almost completely. This has also allowed me to stay completely out of the idiotic Twitter Color Wars.

By tonight, March will have become the busiest month for the Last Podcast since I started blogging here (the old record was last month), with still more than a week to go in the month.

I can’t thank you all enough for reading, sharing, subscribing and commenting on my posts!
