Update: it seems to be working well right now. Kevin Rose is on and it hasn’t crashed yet…
Yahoo just launched a live video service. Clearly, Yahoo has looked at Stickam, Ustream, Justin.tv and other live video services and decided to copy the best of all of them.
Here is how they describe it:
Y! Live was dreamed […]

Shared Feeds, RSSmeme and Ecosystems

If the beginning of this year is any indication for what is still to come, it seems like 2008 is going to be the year of the linkblogs.
When Scoble started pimping his linkblog in pretty much every single one of his posts earlier last year, I really didn’t get it. Today, I am not only […]

As had been rumoured in the last few days, Ask.com has launched a new memetracker - Big News.
A lot of the discussion today focused on the collaboration with Digg.com that is part of the site and apparently also part of the algorithm that decides the freshness of any given story. Working with Digg clearly gave […]

Google’s forgotten stepchildren - Jaiku and GrandCentral
February 5, 2008 | 2 Comments
Whenever I hear that Google has acquired this or that company, I can’t help but fear that Google is just going to forget about them in the long run.
Today, Google teamed up with Twitter (which seems to have stayed up so far) to provide coverage of Super Tuesday through a mash-up with Google Maps.
That’s great […]

According to a prediction by eMarkter, the audience for podcasts will be growing, and with it, the market for podcast advertising:
”As the US podcasting industry matures it is unquestionably creating a listening audience,” says Paul Verna, eMarketer Senior Analyst and author of the new report, Podcast Audience: Seeking Riches in Niches, “And along with a […]

Google just issued a statement about Microsoft’s bid to buy Yahoo! The basic tone is rather aggressive (maybe even paranoid?):
The openness of the Internet is what made Google — and Yahoo! — possible. A good idea that users find useful spreads quickly. Businesses can be created around the idea. Users benefit from constant innovation. It’s […]

I have been harsh with Twitter because of all the outages they experienced over the last week, but it is also worthwhile to point out the good things they have done.
Shifting hosts, though abrupt, clearly shows that they are trying to be pro-active and that they are more than aware of the dangers of their […]

Just a short post: Twitter is down again. Looks like it doesn’t matter who hosts them…

I was thinking about the ideas behind Google’s Social Graph API and considering how this could actually work:
Here’s how it works: we crawl the Web to find publicly declared relationships between people’s accounts, just like Google crawls the Web for links between pages. But instead of returning links to HTML documents, the API returns JSON […]

TellDodo - Dumb, Dumb, Dumb
February 1, 2008 | 1 Comment
I had never heard of TellDodo until I noticed that somebody from there was leaving comments about the service on every blog post that mentioned the barcodes Google is putting in newspaper ads. Here is the post explaining Tell Dodo as it appeared on my site:
Think of it as a verbal equivalent of tinyurl. Google […]

Looks yesterday’s late night rumors were right. Twitter has announced that they are now indeed hosted by NTT America (not by Verio, as was rumored earlier):
We’re proud to announce our strategic alliance with a company known for reliability. A subdivision of the historic Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, NTT America is part of an organization […]

Given that Techmeme is completely dominated by Microsoft/Yahoo news today, I thought I would link to some of the other stories that are getting ignored because of this:
Forget Twitter Issues… ReadBurner is Down! from Louis Gray
The brain as a spam filter from Geeking with Greg
Who “Owns” A Web Service from A VC
The Digg Heat Map […]

Microsoft is in like with Yahoo
February 1, 2008 | 2 Comments
I am still trying to make sense out of Microsoft’s unsolicited offer to buy Yahoo. The fact that Techmeme is overrun with stories about this (looks almost like the iPhone announcement) doesn’t help in getting a clear picture either.
Judging from Yahoo’s own press release, it looks like they are seriously considering this offer:
The Company said […]

NTT Investing in Twitter
February 1, 2008 | 3 Comments
[warning - pure speculation and rumors ahead - proceed with caution]
Lots of rumors swirling around about Twitter today as the company went through yet another series of prolonged service outages.
According to TechCrunch’s Duncan Riley’s ’sources,’ the Japanese teleco NTT might be about to make a major investment in Twitter - and because NTT owns […]
