Short story: If you want to sign up for Google’s number-for-life service GrandCentral - go here.

image-thumb.pngLong story: I have repeatedly criticized the folks at Google for seemingly forgetting about some of the great companies they have bought lately. The one that has irked me the most was GrandCentral, mostly because I think it was a company that had the potential to be a real gamechanger in the phone business.

Now, finally, it has been resurrected with a WebCall button for your blog. While GrandCentral had always offerend a WebCall button, Google is now pushing the integration with Blogger and GrandCentral. Even though it is still in a closed beta, Google has announced that Blogger users can now jump to the front of the line and get an account right now.

But that’s not really true. If you go to the sign-up page here, they don’t even ask you if you are a Blogger user. You just simply sign-up, while from the GrandCentral homepage, you can only reserve a number right now. Considering this, it would seem that GrandCentral is now open for business again.

Also, while Google is mostly pushing the ability to connect readers and publishers, you will actually get a full GrandCentral account, with all its features (call forwarding, ringback tones, voicemail etc.).

I have always been a big fan of GrandCentral, so I am happy to see that Google is finally doing something with it.

And if you want to give me a call - my GrandCentral number is in the right sidebar.
