Stream Your Life and Share with LinkRiver

I cryptically talked about a new services that was going to go public very soon in the last few days.

If you want to know more about it, read this very detailed post by Louis Gray about Adam Stiles’ LinkRiver, as service that I think a lot of you will be using very soon.

LinkRiver takes its inspiration from services like Friendfeed, ReadBurner, as well as the metaphor of following from Twitter, and mixes it up into a cocktail that looks deceptively simple, but is utterly addictive. The interface is extremely clean and very fast.

Right now, users who are accepted into the beta program (if your linkblog is already in the service, I’m sure Adam is going to let you in pretty quickly) can add any of your own RSS sources such as delicious, linkblogs, Twitter etc. to your stream and you can post items directly to LinkRiver with a bookmarklet. Linkriver is agnostic to the exact source of your feed, as long as it is standard RSS.

LinkRiver also keeps tabs on the most shared items of the day/week/months and all time, which is essentially the idea behind ReadBurner and its clones.

Very soon you will also be able to add comments to those shared items, reminiscent of the comment function available in Friendfeed.

I think LinkRiver is going to be a service worth watching closely. Adam Stiles is clearly on to something here and as he keeps adding functions, LinkRiver is going to get more and more compelling. Right now, the interface still looks a bit bare if you are not logged in, but there is a lot more depth lurking behind that white facade.
