Couple of Monday Morning Thoughts
January 28, 2008 |
- Having a Techmeme headline brought about 100x as many readers to my blog as having a byline, even though the post never made it past the middle of the page.
- My first Techmeme headline came from the least controversial, most quickly written post I have done in weeks. It was just a reply to a question Dave Winer asked (and I barely answered it). Dave ended up linking back to it, which was already quite an honor.
- TechMeme readers don’t click AdSense ads, by the way.
- That FastCompany article on the unimportance/non-existence of ‘Influencers” is going to give word-of-mouth marketers something to talk about for a long time. Even if it turns out to be bunk, I love people who aren’t afraid to be contrarian.
- Happy Birthday to Lego - you made my childhood a lot more constructive.
- The TSA is a complete and utter failure, and every day it fails a little bit more.
- Twitter is becoming more and more important as an information source for me. So are FriendFeed and ReadBurner.
- I like AssetBar. It’s still a work in progress, but the GoogleReader developers should have a look at it. It might give them a run for their money in the long run. I just can’t figure out how to connect the name to an RSS reader. I guess they plan to become a lot more in the long run.

Ooh - nifty.
I’m with you on everything but #6. It’s like we had a mind meld.
While the TechMeme visitors don’t click on ads, they do sign up to your RSS and they are very sticky.
Louis - TechMeme readers are definitely more likely than anybody else to subscribe to your feed. For a tech blogger, there is no better audience.
As for #6: I spend too much time in airplanes in the last two years and after having seen what a real thorough security screening looks like in Colombia this month, I think I just have to stick to my opinion about the TSA for now
