Podshow gained 29144% last year?
January 18, 2008 |
Update: Podcasting News and Mashable picked the news up as well, citing the absurd Compete numbers completely without any critical reflection…
There are a lot of reasons why PodShow is growing - but the biggest is that they’ve done a good job of getting talented, attractive video podcasters that create content that’s of interest to a broad audience.
As I am catching up on news, I noticed (via reddit) that Compete released a list of biggest gainers and losers on the web last year.
It’s an interesting list, but do those numbers for Podshow make sense? According to Compete, they had 8.862.190 visitors in December 2007 and got their by gaining an astronomical 29144%. My math is weak, but I think to get to that number, they must have only had around 30.000 visitors in December 2006… Now that doesn’t make much sense to me at all.
Also, looking at Compete’s numbers, they trend for podshow went from nowhere in December 06 to around 7.000.000 in June and has trended down since then, with about 4.000.000 in December. If you look at those numbers, it would seem that Podshow didn’t exist before 2007.
Also, when was the last time that Podshow had any mindshare at all? When was the last time you heard somebody mention them?
Something is fishy with that Compete statistic. The Curry-man is celebrating this of course, but then he isn’t exactly know for being critical about Podshow
