Calacanis on TWIT: Mixed Thoughts

Posted by Frederic On December - 19 - 2007

Update: looks like I’m not the only one who was annoyed by this.

[rant] While I find myself disagreeing with Jason Calacanis at times, I find that, over time, I have come to respect him and that I enjoy his contributions on the Gillmor Group (his blog has gotten lame, though - just pimping the Mahalo these days).

Yesterday, however, he was on Leo Laporte’s This Week in Tech and I came to realize that this is exactly the wrong show for him.

His character works great on a show based on antagonism like the Gillmor Group, but on TWiT, especially with only Dvorak and Laporte on, he does get annoying.

TWiT just isn’t the show where you flaunt that you will pay cash for your Tesla roadster or that you felt you had to downsize from three 30-inch monitors to one 30-incher and two 24-inchers because they took up too much space on your desk.

It was a wonder that he didn’t quote the Robb Report on the show.

The problem is that he is such a strong character that he easily overpowers anybody else on the show, yet TWiT was always great because the guests were well matched. But even Dvorak couldn’t keep Jason down.

[end rant]

I totally agree with you. In-fact I even had my own rant yesterday pleading with Leo not to have him back on the show! I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt the same!
