Zoho Writer Goes Offline (in a good way)
November 26, 2007 |
Zoho today announced that it’s flagship product, Zoho Writer, will allow editing documents offline, thanks to Google Gears (you could already read them offline, btw):
In August, we made Zoho Writer available offline. When we released it back then, the documents were available in read-only mode when offline. With today’s update, you’ll now be able to view and edit your documents offline. This functionality is based on Google’s open source project Google Gears. We thank them for the project and their support.|
I guess that’s a nice thing for a lot of people. But I still swear by Office 2007 and given that Zoho still doesn’t do footnotes, has no bibliography management, no indexing, table of content etc., it is still of little use to me (ok - I am writing on a tiny little dissertation these days, so I might not be the average user…).
But they have made some important improvements over the last few months, so maybe they will get there. Until then, I prefer a modular approach like Office 2007, where I can plug in Endnote, a LaTeX converter and other goodies I often need (oh - and fullscreen editing so I don’t get distracted by other shiny things…).
