Best of Travel Blogs

November 15, 2007 |

I am just planning a number of trips in the next few months (couple of Coast to Coasttrips and one to Europe and South America respectively) and given how much of an airline geek I am, I thought I would share some of the tools I use and blogs I read with  my readers. I am not the ultimate frequent flier, but with just above 75.000 miles on my frequent flier account every year, I did put in a few miles

So, without further ado, here are my top five travel blogs:

Rick Seaney:

Nobody knows more about airline scheduling, pricing and any other arcane air-travel info. The reason for that is that he is also running FareCompare, the best of breed when it comes to airline pricing info (more about that in another post).

My favorite recent post: I’m TIRED of Misinformed “Travel Experts”!

Jeanne Leblanc’s Coach Class blog:

Focused strongly on the Northeast, but with a keen eye for the rest of the country as well. One of the best blogs covering the travel industry from the coach class perspective. I think there is more money in the business travel world (and probably more lucrative Adsense ads), but given that this blog is associated with the Hartford Courant, it is not only written by a journalist, but focuses on regular travelers.

Airline Biz:

If you can’t get enough info about the minutia of the airline business, this one is for you. More details about the Delta/United merger business than you will ever need.

Flight Level 390:

Written by a pilot with a penchant for flying to Anchorage, this blog will give you a feel for what it’s like in the cockpit.  Dave is a seasoned pilot (though like most pilots who blog, he doesn’t quite spell out who he works for).

Favorite recent post: 15 Miles Above.

Business Travel Tips:

Sergio Grasselli will keep you posted on good things to know for the business traveler, with a special focus on US-European routes.

Bonus: Seat 2B:

While I am window seat guy and prefer 2A, Joe Brancatelli was the editor of Frequent Flier magazine. I have found his advice very trustworthy and timely.

Favorite recent post: Frequent Flier Fallacies

If you need information about twenty different topics in order to find
what you want about a City. Then you have a simple tool in your hand here.
The lazy man use it because he only need to write one single keyword,
and the busy women have no time to search for twenty keywords.
