PayPerPost morphs into Izea
October 31, 2007 |
Maybe the constant pounded was getting on the PayPerPosters nerves (okay - that’s probably just a fantasy of mine), but PayPerPost is now going to be called Izea.
ProBlogger sums up what I also think are the reasons for this move:
PayPerPost will continue to run as a service - it’s really just a launch of the parent company - probably a good move as PPP has a fairly fragmented brand among bloggers - some loving it and some hating it.
Well, what’s not to hate about PayPerPost? If you don’t know them, Marshall Kirkpatrick has the perfect description for you (though his post is a bit more nuanced than this quote makes it seem):
PayPerPost is a venture funded Search Engine Optimization scam that threatens to torpedo the reputation of the already widely questioned blogosphere.
But I guess it makes sense. The backers might want to take a step back from the slimy, seedy image of PayPerPost and what better way to do that than by changing the name (or shutting down the service). Izea is now the parent company for all the other PPP programs, including Zookoda.com, BloggersChoiceAwards.com, RockStartup.com, RSSBrief.com, URLBrief.com and BlogInSpace.com.
I am still saddened by the fact that major companies are using PPP’s services. It’s pretty easy money compared to actually writing real post and hoping for some AdSense clicks, but if the only reason you are blogging is money, maybe those Posties (the name still makes me want to throw up) are just doing the smart thing. I just don’t want to stoop down to their level.
