Microsoft Pays $240 Million for 1.6% of Facebook

Posted by Frederic On October - 24 - 2007

Tell me this is not completely ridiculous:

The two companies said on Wednesday that Microsoft would invest $240 million for a 1.6 percent stake in Facebook. The investment values the three-year-old Facebook, which will bring in about $150 million in revenue this year, at $15 billion.

Facebook is a fad, no matter what Scoble says. Facebook is not worth $15 billion dollars. That’s a 100 times is yearly revenue…

Either we’re buried deep inside a bubble or I just feel a real disconnect because I don’t see any value in Facebook for myself as a user.

Why in the world would I use a site that barely uses half of my screen and is basically a glorified dating site as a feedreader/email replacement/app platform? Of course, I can give somebody a virtual AXE Devil Duck, if the recipient is a sucker for online product placement, but I just seriously don’t get it.
