Podshow sees 1 million users for live programming?
October 18, 2007 |
I just read this on Mashable:
PodShow, the community that lets you create, share and collect video clips and music, is seeing some success from its recently launched channel called thePLUS.
Featuring the new show BackStage Pass, the new entertainment from PodShow has gained about 1 million viewers worldwide. Powered by a new scheduling system called mediaPLUS, the show aggregates pre-produced and on-location modules for a dynamically generated live entertainment channel, which streams around the clock.
It’s good to see that blogs also sometimes just copy press releases without thinking about them too much.
So Podshow launches a 24/7 programmed channel in England. It premiers with the BT Digital Music Awards - a show where you find everybody from Ludacris to the Chemical Brothers and beyond… and a million people watch part of it within three days. That’s great, but it has nothing to do with the sustainability of this “channel.”
I also wonder if this was pushed on British Telecom’s cable homepage for the day. If so, the numbers have to be taken with a grain of salt.
It’s a good press release (though this is a bit corny: “Curry Concludes, “I can already hear the chanting… ‘I want my PodShowTV!’”). But come on guys - let’s not forget that Podshow overall has been a huge disappointment to podcasting and podcasters.
p.s. I think Podshow is thinking about a German version as well. Good luck with that. The Germans haven’t exactly embraced podcasting so far.
