Joost Launches…
October 1, 2007 |
Joost, the online video outfit created by the founders of Skype and Kazaa officially launched today.
I was in on the beta pretty early on, and, just like Matthew Ingram, kept up with it for quite a while and the lost interest. The interface is nice, yet somewhat cryptic, the video looked decent - yet I haven’t started the program in months. Why? Not much to see there. If I want news, I head over to CNN where it is live. If I want to see a TV series, I get it on the web (especially now that ABC does HD video) or bittorrent - the quality is just better.
Also, I never kept the client running, because it eats up way too much bandwidth.
Also, the idea of having to open up yet another application just to see some video content just seems wrong these days. If Joost were running in the browser and I could easily link to content, I might be more interested (if the content were interesting…)
Maybe I am just jaded and this is the biggest thing since bread came sliced (or at least the future of TV). For those who didn’t try out the beta, maybe this will be a longer-lived phenomenon, but I think we need to revisit Joost in a few months to know.
