I was just thinking about how I hardly read TechCrunch anymore these days. Back in the day (that is, last year), Mike Arrington wrote interesting, somewhat in-depth, reviews of new and upcoming web-services.

Here is what the About page still says:

TechCrunch, founded on June 11, 2005, is a weblog dedicated to obsessively profiling and reviewing new Internet products and companies.

However, these days, TechCrunch hardly reviews any products anymore. The reviews, like this one for Listphile, are far an in between. Their depth is at best minimal and usually don’t feature more than a list of features without much criticism, either positive or negative.

I think this is quite a shame. TechCrunch used to provide a great service, but at this point, it is hardly distinguishable from VentureBeat or Mashable. TechCrunch used to be the blog for the Web 2.0 crowd. Now it is just one of many.

Maybe if Mike would actually write more of the posts and got back to writing actual, hardcore reviews, TechCrunch could become interesting again.
