Apple Event Updates

September 5, 2007 |

The Apple Event has started.

Apple Store is down - of course

Apple ships new iTunes - “to support some new products” :)

Ringtones for the iPhone for 99cents

custom iTunes ringtone builder - not every song will be ‘ringtonable’ - so you pay twice for your ringtone - once for the song - once for the ringtone

  • so there are ringtones for the iPhone now - big news…

iTunes now has a little audio editor to allow for the custom ringtones feature

will be turned on next week

Steve played “Give Peace a Chance” - “That’s for when NBC calls”

iPod

every single product will be refreshed

there will be a (RED) shuffle - $79 for 1GB

that’s not very interesting, Steve!

Cover flow and video on the nano

it’s the fatty nano!

games - 2 inch screen - all metal

oh, oh - I think Apple might have lost its mojo…

very thin

from Gizmodo:

The screen still has 320×240 (204 ppi) and supports the same resolution as the iPod Videos. There’s a changed UI as well, showing you album art, videos, photos, and extra stuff on the right hand side (takes up half the screen). Also, Cover Flow, which is controlled with the touchwheel on the bottom. Yes, the touchwheel is still there on the Nano.

comes with three games

from Gizmodo:

When you’re browsing the main menu (which only takes up the left half of the screen), the right hand side displays a sample of whatever section you’re browsing. Music shows random album art, video shows a snip from the video, and photos show a photo.

This is some ugly iPod… the big iPod better be good

Engadget says coverflow looks choppy (wow - when did Apple ever release a product that doesn’t at least demo well?)

to demo podcasts, Steve plays a G4 show - come on Steve - you just lost your street cred - Leo Laporte will be angry :)

24 hr battery life

will come in 4GB and 8GB ($149 and $199 - price drop?) - nothing special here

in stores by the weekend (lame!)

iPod classic (if there is a classic - there must be a new one as well!)

80GB ($249) and 160GB ($349) - must mean the new version will be more expensive?

40 hrs battery life - 7hrs video (okay - at least some good news)

available today

“but we’re not done yet”

the iPod Touch has arrived!

8mm thin

“It features our revolutionary multi-touch interface that you’ve come to know and love on the iPhone. If you’ve used an iPhone you’ll feel at home, it’s exactly the same. Scroll through the artists with a flick of your finger. Turn it into a landscape position, it goes into Cover Flow, it’s just magical.”

Clearly there are some icons missing on that screen!

It has wifi!

(Engadget is having technical difficulties - too much news :)

Safari on the iPod!!!

email anybody?

Rumors about a price drop for iPhone swirl around right now

8GB is $299… the price for the 16GB is $399 - available in a few weeks (I assume it needs FTC approval)

iTunes on the Touch! iTunes wifi! (what about podcasts?)

also coming to the iPhone

AND ONE MORE THING: Apple loves Starbucks! There is some weird Starbucks feature in the iTunes wifi store… You can buy the song that is playing at Starbucks - with free access to the store while at Starbucks (not the net!)

iPhone becoming affordable -$399 for 8GB - WOW - just sucks for those who bought it for $599

No more 4GB iPhone!

That’s it - event is over.
