The GPhone?
Right on schedule with it’s roughly bi-monthly reappearance, the much rumored GPhone is making it’s round through the blogosphere today.
This time, Indian news outlet Rediff News “reveals” that the phone will be announced within a month.
Sources close to the development said a simultaneous launch across the US and Europe is expected, and announcements would be sent to media firms in India and other parts of the world. US regulatory approval, which is expected soon, is the only hurdle that Google is waiting to cross, they added. Google plans to invest $7-8 billion for its global telephony foray.
Also, TechCrunch has a nice summary of the various GPhone rumors.
My personal opinion: ain’t happening. Why?
Google already has a presence on the iPhone.
Google is not in the hardware business (except for the search appliance).
Google doesn’t need its own phone.
If Google had filed for FCC approval, every gadget blogger would be all over it.
