Google Storage? Free Updates or $20
August 9, 2007 |
I am slightly confused today about what is happening to Google’s storage maximums.
First, I read on the the Google Operating System blog that I can now buy additional storage (6GB are going for $20 a year) for a mixed Picasa and GMail account. If you follow this link, you can see so for your own account.
Then, just a little bit later, Paul Kedrosky reports that some people have seen their storage go to almost 10GB overnight - for free.
Personally, I would like to see Google go to unlimited storage. It is, after all very unlikely that even a small number of users would use more than even 1GB, yet, we geeks can finally stop worrying about the size of our mail accounts (by the way, wouldn’t Google compress all these little text email files to a far smaller size on its servers anyway?)
