I wrote a story about the OpenMoko phone a few weeks back. That was before the actual phone was available.

Starting today, OpenMoko is taking and fulfilling orders for the Neo 1973 Base and Advanced Developer Preview 9for $300 and $450 respectively).

The diggers picked up on this (though with a somewhat misleading title) and there seems to be quite some excitement about this phone in tech enthusiast circles.

Given its impressive hardware specs and the openness of the product, this could indeed become a great phone. What needs to be seen, though, is if it can steal some thunder from the iPhone.
