Google Buying GrandCentral?

June 25, 2007 |

GC MobileMike Arrington reports that Google might be in talks to acquire GrandCentral or possible has already closed the deal.

GrandCentral has a great service and Mike thinks it would be a good compliment to Google’s GTalk and GMail:

GrandCentral was recently pitching a second round of financing to Silicon Valley venture capitalists, but broke off discussions abruptly as the Google talks heated up.

I’m speculating on where Google will use GrandCentral, but the synergies with Gmail and GTalk are fairly obvious and could be the next step in Google’s competition with Skype and other instant messaging platforms.

If it is true, hat’s off to GrandCentral - they provide a highly innovative and reliable service. I can see how Google could integrate this into its own portfolio. Now Google can not only keep our records for live, but give us a phone number for live as well. I just hope they don’t analyze our conversations and play us advertising related to what we talk about. That would creep even me out.
