Today in Web Metrics
June 21, 2007 |
Matthew Ingram today points out that public webmetrics are in dire need for some more accuracy. Both he and Richard MacManus of Read/WriteWeb point out how digg.com has apparently grown by 1400% over the last year with 22.6 Million uniques.
From Matthew:
Digg said last October that it had 20 million visitors. But if it has grown at 1,400 per cent, then shouldn’t that figure be a lot higher than just 22 million? And at the same time Digg said it had 20 million, comScore said it had less than one-tenth that many. The Web Metrics Guru, however, said in a post here that he believes the 20 million number was realistic.
1400% is awfully high - but check out podshow.com on compete - they grew a ridiculous 28991% over the last year.
Personally, I only put some stock into Alexa’s data - and then only in the trends it represents. Why? Because I find it pretty accurate when it comes to measuring my own sites and given the secrecy people have around the stats, that’s really the only measure I can trust.
