Job Interviews in Second Life?
June 20, 2007 |
Just when the hype around Second Life is dying down, the Wall Street Journal features an article on job interviews in Second Life.
A number of big companies put the new medium to a test last month, when recruitment-advertising firm TMP Worldwide Advertising & Communications LLC hosted a virtual job fair with employers such as Hewlett-Packard Co., Microsoft Corp., Verizon Communications Inc. and Sodexho Alliance SA, a food and facilities-management services company. TMP says it will host another virtual job fair in August.
How utterly ridiculous. Why would any recruiter want to do this? People already fake their way through interviews. Recruiters already know every canned answer and know that the potential recruit is a great “self-motivated team player.”
Real life interviews are already fake. Interviews in Second Life are more so. I just hope the recruiters who hire somebody based on a Second Life “interview” have been fired by now.
