Google to Buy Feedburner?
May 18, 2007 |
The rumor today is that Google is about to acquire Feedburner. TechMeme is going pretty wild with the idea. Valleywag says it’s going to be a $100m deal.
It seems like a good plan to me. Google, the advertising company that it is, kills two birds with one strike here. It gets the RSS metrics that Feedburner has to offer, and access to Feedburner’s RSS advertising system and clients.
Google is can integrate the metrics with Google Analytics (which just got a complete facelift) and the RSS advertising with AdSense/AdWords. Makes perfect sense to me.
But then, we might also wonder why Google can’t roll a relatively basic system like Feedburner itself. Maybe Google is afraid people won’t switch over to a GoogleBurner because, in the end, Feedburner locks you into using its system (even though they say it is easy to switch). Who knows? Maybe this will just stay a rumor anyway.
