Jason Calacanis is a Genius
April 27, 2007 |
Already known as the greatest genius the blogosphere has every known, Jason Calacanis, the former Editor of Silicon Alley Reporter, who is now going to increase his reach outside of the blogosphere by acting in a feature movie on the dot.com boom in New York in the late 90s, and who is well known for his deep relationships with the blog world (as referenced by his frequent comments on even the more obscure blogs, has published his rules for link-baiting, which clearly line out what we have to say to so that he will grace our humble blogs with his attention.
His arch-nemesis, Nick Denton, would have never come up with this idea - and neither Adam Curry. Dave Gillmor might have, but he doesn’t exactly link much…
While he might be controversial in many quarters, his pure hate for PayPerPost makes any disagreement I might have with him go away.
Anyway, I think his rules for linkbaiting will probably hold true for almost every other A-list blogger as well; with the only difference that only Calacanis has the chutzpah to actually write them down. Of course he is masking it as a bit of a joke, but like every good joke, this one has more than a kernel of truth to it. Hell, the man is a linkbaiting machine if I have ever seen one.
And wow - look at all the people who took the bait: Now I Have a Blog Too, the j. botter weblog, SYNTAGMA, James Governor’s Monkchips and all these other folks here.

mad props to jason. he got two links out of me, with no pingback.
[…] I knew I got two links out of it, but one disappeared and only showed up again this morning. Thanks Last Podcast. This entry was written by jgovernor and posted on April 30, 2007 at 4:47 pm and filed under […]
James - that’s why that post was genius. I don’t think Jason needs the links, but I have a feeling that he loves attention - and on a slow newsday, that’s exactly what he got.
I wrote a review of Jason’s interview with Fred Vogelstein of Wired Magazine.
What gives? My link hasn’t been acknowledged. Perhaps my review was a little superficial. Perhaps Jason is counting up all his linkages, watching the cause and effect waves whisking through the Technorati scale like a tsunami.
Could you put in a good word for a Z-listed blogger?
Regards,
Coral
