No More Snap Preview - Long Live SnapShots
April 16, 2007 |
The somewhat annoying Snap Preview Anywhere service is no more. The most prominent site that experimented with it was TechCrunch and many, many readers there were highly annoyed by this.
But Snap did not give up. Instead, they now actually released a useful product: SnapShots. Here the focus is on only displaying preview information to useful sites (wikipedia, IMDB, Yahoo! Finance, and Reuters, among others). These new pop-ups are far more informative than the earlier thumbnail snapshots and will hence probably annoy far fewer people. Purist, though, will continue to complain, but there is little Snap can do about that.
It is good to see a company learn from mistakes and come back with a stronger product. Maybe I will give it a shot on this site here as well in the next few days.
