More Useless Social Networks

April 12, 2007 |

I just can’t get excited about social networks of any kind. Facebook, myspace and their clones just leave me cold. Now Rolling Stone is apparently getting into the game as well with its own social network (hat tip to GigaOm).

Om Malik and Andrea Feczko hit the nail right on the head. Social networks are popular with the college crowd. I spend every day on a college campus and have not seen a single person read Rolling Stone magazine (thinking about it, I hardly see anybody here read any magazine - hell, I don’t read a single magazine). Rolling Stone is a dead brand.

Just like with all the YouTube cloners out there, there is just no point to this exercise. Just start a myspace and facebook group and built on the tools others have given you. You don’t invent a fork every time you want to eat some spaghetti.
