It’s Been Quiet

February 23, 2007 |

Not many updates in the last few days. Besides that I didn’t see much news I felt strongly about in the last few days, I have also been travelling (and, as usual, thanks to Continental’s President’s Club for not securing its WiFi!).

Yesterday was my lucky day, not only did I have a $150 round-trip ticket across the country from Providence, RI, through Newark on to Portland, OR, but with a huge stroke of luck I got rescued, from sitting between the window and a huge guy next to me by a nice little announcement on the speaker, asking me to press my ‘flight attendant call button.” The nice flight attendant informed me that I was supposed to be in first class and they weren’t sure where I was. Ah, the joys of lobster at 30.000 feet, topped off with a little sundae with nuts and as much wine as you want… (don’t be jealous, it comes at the cost of being separated from your wife for weeks on end).

If airlines do one thing well, then it is taking care of its loyal customers (or at least Continental is). In the back of the plane, you get a plastic wrapped cheeseburger and a coke, in the front, you get linen on your little foldout table, as much wine as you can handle, lobster and a salad for appetizer, six meal choices, a desert and drinks whenever you want to. And most people in the front of the place payed more than I did and many who sat in the back probably payed double of my fare as well, but airlines reward loyalty, and damn if I haven’t been loyal to Continental. If only all companies treated their customers that way.

Okay - just had to say how luck I felt yesterday, because all those suckers in their suits in the back of the plane looked mighty pissed when under-dressed, unshaven and long-haired me made the luck walk up front and they got stuck sitting next to each other :)
