Guy Kawasaki, Adsense and Monetization
Lots of talk today about the fact that a popular blogger such as Guy Kawasaki only made $3350 a year with a CPM of less than a buck fifty.
A lot of other bloggers, such as EirePreneur, are also wondering how he could make so little with such a large audience. I would argue that part of that has to do with his audience (techie folks just don’t click on ads), but also partly on the placement of his ads (sidebar ads just don’t work that well).
There is a great analysis of it all in the comments at Publishing 2.0: Blogs Have A Big Problem With Small CPMs .
Disclosure: This blog makes about $20 a month. Pocket change for sure, but it pays for the hosting of this blog and my podcasts, so it is fine with me. I blog because it gives me a way to talk about tech stuff without boring all my friends who don’t care.
