Let’s Not Call it a Blog

December 27, 2006 |

The Inquirer says it is about time for the mainstream media world to understand what a blog is:

Let’s start with a definition, a blog is short for a web log, that is someone writing about their personal experiences, sometimes on a specific topic, sometimes not. Some are formatted in the classic blog way with text down the middle, others not. It all has one thing in common, it is a personal log of a single person’s experiences.

Now, for the slow out there, personal means just that. If it is an executive looking like they are talking about the products they sell, it is a PR exercise written by PR people. It is a lie masquerading as something hip and cool to sell you on a product. Not a blog.

Now what about those people who get laptops as Christmas gifts from Microsoft? Are they still writing blogs?

Here is my definition: if Edelman is involved, it is not a blog.
