No ID – No Pancakes at IHOP
Securityfocus reports that an IHOP location in Quincy, Mass. has started asking
customers for their drivers licences before dining.
Now that’s a restaurant chain that takes identity theft serious. How clueless are those customers who are willing to give up their license for some medicore pancakes? Apparently this was done to avoid people from eating and just running without paying, but asking for a license?
Not all are learning to be more aware of data security. The customer quoted in the WCVB-TV article claimed that the security guard collecting IDs already had 40 licenses in his possession.
Late Tuesday, IHOP’s corporate offices declared that the single store which implemented the policy would be reversing the decision and underscored that the manager had instituted the measure without notifying the head office.
