Gillmor-Less Gang

Posted by Frederic On November - 6 - 2006

Steve GillmorI agree with Doc Searls that this week’s Gillmor Gang was very good - and not just because Doc was on a different phone (I haven’t had time listened to the last chapter yet, and neither the first, as the feed didn’t seem to include the first one). Since last week’s episode featured an almost unbearably bad first part where nobody seemed to be saying anything, this weeks show was a great comeback for the gang.

I just wished Jason Calacanis wouldn’t bring people off topic (”Oh God, Oh God - Mike Arrington, I have to send you an IM about this stuff that we might or might not discuss on the gang”). He brings up some really interesting stuff (I liked the idea of having industry heavy-weights do what are essentially guest posts on TechCrunch) and I like that fact that he brings things down to earth by giving examples from his early days (splicing cables and setting up Token Ring networks and giant 300 baud modems) and his work at AOL. He is just a bit jumpy sometimes and it might come off as rude to the other gang members who are frequently interrupted by him while saying something potentially very interesting.

Steve Gillmor was hardly to be heard on the show. He explains why in a GestureLab post (no link, of course, as links are dead - so you just have to take this as a gesture).

Anyway - great show and definitely required listening.

it was a great final show… sad that it had to end this way.

Jason - it actually was. The last chapter this week might have been the best in a long time. Good advice for the Doc - I hope he (and maybe Mike) takes you up on that.

Shame it was the last one, but at least you went out with a bang.
