Google Bought Youtube
October 9, 2006 |
At this point, I am not exactly breaking the news anymore. Hats off to Mike Arrington for this. Google has bought YouTube
Here is a part from Google’s press release that I though was interesting:
When the acquisition is complete, YouTube will retain its distinct brand identity, strengthening and complementing Google’s own fast-growing video business. YouTube will continue to be based in San Bruno, CA, and all YouTube employees will remain with the company. With Google’s technology, advertiser relationships and global reach, YouTube will continue to build on its success as one of the world’s most popular services for video entertainment.
So there will be no gootube or googtube. I would guess google realized that the YouTube brand is so strong that there is no reason to change that. Also, I would assume that Google is mostly intersted in the advertising angle here and doesn’t care about the branding too much.
The YouTubers must be happy, but the next question of course is going to be: how is Google going to deal with the inevitable lawsuits?
