Just coming back from a few days off, here is what I thought was mandatory reading today:
Marshall Kirkpatrick / TechCrunch: Google Acquires Wiki Collaboration Company Jotspot
Mary Jo Foley / All about Microsoft: Microsoft revamps its Office Live line-up
Jack Neff / AdAge: Better ROI From YouTube Video Than Super Bowl Spot

There were a couple of PPP developments this weekend, most important of all that PPP now doesn’t accept advertisers who explicitly insist on non-disclosure anymore and their announcement of disclosurepolicy.org. I take that as a great first step, though I share Mike Arrington’s reservations when it comes to disclosurepolicy.org.

Digg Down

Looks like digg.com is out of service right now - I wonder if this is a planned outage or if they are cooking up something new.

I am somewhat sad to see that the end of Odeo as we know it is gone - the assets of the company were acquired by Obvious Corp., which will keep the services running. Basically, Evan Williams who was already CEO of Odeo and probably most famous for co-creating Blogger and Biz Stone bought out […]

There will be some really light blogging from me over the weekend, but I just wanted to point out this post and conversionrater.com, which does a great job summarizing Jasan Calacanis’ keynote speech at the Blog Business Summit.
My two favorite quotes:
This led into complaints about PayPerPost, who he thinks is bad for the blogosphere. He […]

Blog Ethics

October 25, 2006 | 11 Comments

Mike Arrington today reports on an initiative to create some form of ethics guideline for bloggers. CNET is sponsering a gathering in SF to discuss this tonight, but for those of use far away from the West Coast, the Social Media Club has some additional infromation.
To me, it all comes down to this paragraph - […]

But no takers so far… I am with Thomas Hawk, though - somebody is going to buy it an Yahoo would be the perfect fit.
I always thought the problem with digg was monetizing the service. Digg remains a niche product, with a niche audience, even if it has tried to break out of the tech […]

I found this interesting post on the PayPerPost forum. Looks like twomomsinablog.com is his/her main PPP blog. None of the posts are disclosed, of course.
Just check out that list at the end. Basically, the blogger is saying: Fuck those people who don’t like the PPP, those idiots who come to my site would never […]

Online cassifieds service Edgio has raised $5 million in a Series A financing round led by Intel Capital.
Reports can be found here, here and here. Only a short note on TechCrunch, of course - Mike Arrington runs founded edgeio after all.
Te basic tenor so far has been that edgio has come back from the dead. […]

Daily Roundup

October 24, 2006 |

I have been offline most of the day, so just a quick update on what stories I didn’t get to blog about but thought were the most interesting today:
Richard MacManus / Read/WriteWeb: Firefox 2 Launch: Interview With Chris Beard, Mozilla VP Products
Apple: Apple MacBook Pro Notebooks Now with Intel Core 2 Duo Processors
Liz […]

Just priceless.

Google today launched a new version of the Google Co-op, adding an easy way to create custom searches. Some possible uses for this could be search engines for specific site - such as the Last Podcast (the built-in ones in blogging software tend be quite useless), or for a very specific topic. I went ahead and created both. […]

You have to watch this video. Really. An uninformed guy spouting ad hominem attacks against Jason Calacanis and Jeff Jarvis (and everybody else who hates PPP). Just a shame he has nothing substantial to say - I am sure he would say it very intensely.

And just because video’s are so much fun - check this […]

My favorite online storage company Box.net announced a $1.5 million Series A funding round today. TechCrunch has the details on the deal.

I have regularly used they free 1GB plan for a long time now and I could not be happier. I mainly use it as offsite backup of Word documents and it works like […]
