Google just removed the waitlist and opened up Google Analytics (formerly Urchin) for everyone.
According to Brett Crosby the Senior Manager of Google Analytics:
I’m happy to tell you that we’ve just removed the wait to receive a Google Analytics account. Now anyone with a website can instantly create one for free by simply by visiting google.com/analytics […]

Why does it take so long to install anything produced by Microsoft? Really. Why? Live Writer took for ever, and now I am trying to install Visual Studio Express and it has already taken ten minutes to install a 2.5MB download? It’s as if they were using a floppy disk emulation.

Web calendaring site Kiko.com put itself up for sale on ebay. Check the ebay listing for their stats. They don’t look so bad, but they are not really overwhelming either. With 40.000 visitors and 77.659 pageviews, I would guess their real userbase was about 10.000 users, maybe a few less.
They were not bought and they couldn’t […]

After updating Google Talk today (on its one-year anniversary) with voicemail and a feature to display the music a user is listening to, Goole also now introduced Google Music Trends, which is build on top of this feature (found by Garett Rogers). Here is the current Alternative Top 3:

I avoid blogging about blogging as much as I can, but the discussion Nick Carr unleashed upon us today (see Techmeme for all the comments) cries for a comment.
Here is a snipped of his post, The Great Unread:
What we tell ourselves about the blogosphere - that it’s open and democratic and egalitarian, that it stands […]

In an effort to get its settlement money from a spammer, AOL is going to dig for gold and platinum bars under on his parents property. Very “Pirates of the Caribbian.”
From MSNBC:

A former U.S. prosecutor described AOL’s efforts as highly unusual. Marc Zwillinger said his law firm has seized plasma televisions, jet skis and […]

Now CBS is joining ABC in putting its prime-time shows online. According to Reuters, Surviver and CSI are first, followed by a new show called Jericho.
These are interesting developments and with young people drawing away from TV, this might be just the move all the networks will have to make in the long (short?) […]

Google has announced that it will now show coupons on its Google Maps site when users search for local businesses (e.g. pizza, hardware store etc.). They have also added a very simple form for businesses to add those coupons. Very smart on their behalf. Here are some more links with more info.

Not only did Netvibes today announce that they received $15 million in funding, but, according to Siliconbeat.com, they have now hit more than 5 million users. I take this as a sign that there is definitely a market out there for web 2.0 homepages. Here is mashable.com’s Pete Cashmore’s take on this:
Netvibes, the popular ajax startpage, just […]

Dell is recalling 4.1 Million notebook batteries. According to their recalls website, they have set up a website at www.dellbatteryprogram.com, just a shame it doesn’t work… Update: it works now.
Crunchgear also has some comments on this.

At http://beta.blogger.com, you can now sign into the new blogger beta with your Google account. The service has been completely revamped from the ground up, though it looks like at first, users will not notice much of the difference.
A great summary of the new functions is available at the Google Operating System.

Tim Heuer has already developed two plugins for the new Windows Live Writer (well, okay, he got an early start on it as he was an early alpha tester on this). And great plugins they are: one to make adding flickr photos a breeze, and one to add technorati taggs.
Tag4Writer is available, here.

The smart anchor at Fox News just asked one of their “experts” if he thought that the US would have been prepared to shoot down the planes… Hello!!! Did you listen to the news in the last few hours? This was not a highjacking. They were going to blow up the planes long after they […]
