Google Update of the Day: Google Music Trends

After updating Google Talk today (on its one-year anniversary) with voicemail and a feature to display the music a user is listening to, Goole also now introduced Google Music Trends, which is build on top of this feature (found by Garett Rogers). Here is the current Alternative Top 3:

Users also have the ability to filter according to style of music and country (though only the US is available right now). Interestingly, there does not seem to be a general top-20 list, everything is organized by genre’s
Another interesting tool, which makes you wonder if Google doesn’t have some kind strategy to make some money with music in the long run.
Update: Anybody else find it strange that the hip-hop list is completely dominated by The Streets and Jay-Z + DJ Dangermouse? Maybe some people have already found a way to game this system? Or maybe so few people are using it right now that the two people who do are responsible for all of these listing? How often do they update anyway?
