What does ABC’s Move Mean For iTunes?
I have been thinking about ABC’s move to offer shows for free on the web (with commercials). So far, the overall reaction has been more than postive, with Jeff Jarvis even proclaiming that “TV has finally exploded.”
One angle few have taken so far, though, is to think about what this means for the iTunes sales of these shows. I would assume Apple is not that happy with the move. Also, what does it mean in regards to sales of these shows so far? Has ABC been disappointed by the sales figures so far and that’s why the open the floodgates now? That seems to be what the Church of the Customer Blog thinks is happening. Then, the shows online version is not going to be portable at all, so maybe there is not going to be any canabalization here.
