Nobody Really Bothers to Attack Macs?
February 22, 2006 |
In a Wired article today, I saw the old reference to nobody attacking the Max because of its small market share:
The Mac has had no viruses to date, he said, primarily because of its small market share. It’s got a superior track record compared to Windows, but it’s not invulnerable; rather, no one has bothered to spend much time trying to attack it. Now that hackers are taking more notice, life will get harder for Mac owners. He suggested I tackle this “wake up call” in this column. Wired News.
I just don’t buy it - I am sure hackers have heard that so many times now - their work ethos must have driven them to attacking the Mac by now. Maybe they jut haven’t succeeded? The anti-virus companies and the so called ’security experts’ want to keep up the impression that there could be a virus coming to the Mac soon after all. That’s how they sell stuff.

maybe you missed it but there ARE viruses for the mac now…
the thing about macs not having as big of a marketshare just means they aren’t as big of a target, not that they aren’t a target at all… malware does and will get written, just not as fast and not as often because there are far fewer people working on it…
