Gmail Now with RSS Feeds
December 9, 2005 |
When I logged into GMail just now, I was greeted with an option to add WebClips, which is basically Google’s name for RSS and Atom feeds. Wow - I will test this out and report later.
Update 1: Looks like my euphoria wasn’t for long. Nothing works yet. The directory of feeds is empty, except for a disclaimer that Google doesn’t vouch for the content of these feeds. When searching for feeds, which can be done by search term (BBC, scripting etc.), URL of the site or URL of the feed, nothing comes up. I guess we will have to wait.
Update 2: I just turned the RSS feature off. It works, but it is not worthwhile. Why would I want to see random headlines pop up? Couldn’t they give me a number of updated feeds and open a window with those, maybe shoving the mail down and making that one line instead. Oh well, back to Netvibes for me.
For now, the only feed that appears on the top is an advertisement…
