Squidoo Launched – So What?
Squidoo launched today. I had a quick look at it, so this might not be my definitive review, but can somebody explain to me what the point of this is? Here is an excerpt from the FAQ
1. WHAT’S A LENS?A lens is one person’s (lensmaster’s) view on a topic he cares about. More specifically, a lens is a single web page filled with information and links that point to other web pages, to continually updated RSS feeds, or to relevant advertising. It’s a place to start, not finish.
6. …are a podcaster, you should definitely have a lens. It would list the details of your podcasts, point to transcripts that some fan had posted, point to your six most recent podcasts, and include the RSS for subscribing to the podcast. The lens would also have a set of links for getting started with podcasting and getting a podcast reader
First of all, don’t invent funky names – what the hell is a lensmaster? Second, as a podcaster, what does Squidoo give me that my site doesn’t have already? Did I hear ‘nothing’ somewhere? Look – there is a site where I can point to transcripts of my podcast… right, kind of like me website. Oh, and I can have links… great. Never new I could do that…
Basically, I don’t see a point in this site. I see Seth Godin and Chris Anderson signed up for this, but there is nothing on their Squidoo site that isn’t on their blogs already. Just seems like a useless service… did I say that before?
