Om Malik points to an article on Planet.nl. According to this article, the Dutch use their bandwith in the following way (according to data from the Amsterdam Internet Exchange – AMS-IX):
Web & mail: 48 %

It is surprising to see this high amount of [...]

Web Bugs, Buzz and Paranoia

Jeff Jarvis of BuzzMachine comments on the NSA cookie story: “The government cookie story is getting stupider by the day. [...] It is an issue only with the tin-hat society. This is a nonstory born of ignorance and paranoia and now hype.” The ensuing discussion might be one of the best I have seen in [...]

Intel Rebranding and Its Corporate Culture

MSNBC features a Business Week Online report on Intel and the changes the company is making.
For a while now, I have been wondering about the corporate culture at Intel (I have friends working there) and the company always struck me as the anti-thesis of a high-tech company (gourmet food at Google, the cubicle culture [...]

Sony Offers ‘Free’ Music to Settle Rootkit Case

Various news sources are reporting that Sony will offer customers free music dowloads and cash to settle the rootkit case. Now how do we provide proof that we own one of those CDs?
From the LA Times:
The proposed settlement, detailed in court papers filed Wednesday, would require Sony BMG to offer the 2 million to 3 [...]

Pew: Men and Women use Internet in (Almost) the Same Way

Another Pew Poll about the Internet. I was not amazed by the last one (lots of meaningless talk about remixing content etc.). This new one focusses on the different way women and men use the internet. It has been reported on CNN and other mainstream media outlets. However, if you read the poll, most of [...]

Alaska Airlines 536 Almost Crashes and Blogger gets Flamed Over His Report

Somebody please explain this to me. Jeremy Hermanns was on Alask Airlines Flight #536 which experienced de-pressurization at 30k feet. He, (and all others on board), survived and wrote a blog post about it. Then he gets flamed for it. Read the comments. They get vicious very quickly. Why?
Here are some of the comments:
So [...]

Koolaidguy and Digg

Via: Web 2.0 Explorer
There has been some chatter in the blogosphere today about how digg.com could be rigged by users using multiple accounts. Koolaidguy (google cache). This guy got multiple stories on the front page this way:
This is a snapshot of the front page. Notice how the stories that I’ve mass dugg dominates the front [...]

2006 Predictions

It seems every pundit is releasing predictions for 2006. Some, such as Dave Winer’s are somewhere between prophetic and wacky, but the best I have found so far are Greg Linden’s on Geeking with Greg.
I especially agree with these ones:
Yahoo will double down on their bets in community and social networking, including buying at [...]

Verizon to Add Mobile Music Download Servie

According to CNet News, Verizon Wireless is soon going to join the group of cell phone companies adding music downloads to its portfolio. I wrote about this a while ago when Sprint announced its plans. Overall, if well implemented, this is not a bad idea. I can’t see myself using it, but them I am [...]

Odeo’s Reaction to My Prediction

I just noticed the guys over at odeo.com took note of my post on Podcast directories last week. Here is their reaction:

The Last Podcast: “Podcasting is not blogging. The cost of entry is so much higher in term of time invested and soul bared. There are only [...]

NYT Under $1000 Laptop Round-up

The New York Times today features a good round-up of notebooks under $1000. Nothing spectacular here, but this might be a good read for those looking for some affordable portability. I am still amazed by the fact that the avarage laptop sold now only costs $980.

One thing that isn’t pointed out strongly enough (though it [...]

Google Zeitgeist for 2005 Released

Google just released its Zeitgeist for 2005. Some interesting results. Janet Jackson is the most searched news item. Ranked higher than Katrina. Most of the top searches in the News category are actually celebrities (for the sake of it, I will include Harry Potter in that category…). XBox 360 is #4, following Jackson, Katrina and [...]
